How do I use a wireless network adapter for Xbox Live?

I bought an Xbox 360 for Christmas and used a wireless network adapter Ethernet cable instead. But this is not working. The light is red and can not connect to Xbox Live. Suggestions?

I suppose you have a router. Go to software router and connect another device:) Merry Christmas! I have an Xbox as well;)
